SASRA Angling Club has the rights from the NDA to fish the west side of the River Calder from Duke's Way Bridge approximately 1 1/2 miles north to Knocking Wood (with the exception of the Sella Park House Hotel stretch of the river). The river enjoys runs of Sea Trout from May and Salmon from June.
The River Calder is a small spate river. Fishing methods are predominately spinning with lures and worm fishing. There are few opportunities to fly fish, although some areas of the river can be tackled with a light fly fishing outfit.
A small car park is provided next to the river for access.
The annual subscription is £15.00 payable to the treasurer. In addition you will need an Environment Agency Salmon and Migratory Trout Licence available from most Post Offices or online from the Environment Agency Website.
The Club holds an Annual General Meeting in November of each year at the Windscale Club in Seascale, which members can attend. The Club also organises day trips to local trout fisheries during the Spring and Summer.
Please Note
The closed season for Salmon lasts from the 1st day in November until the last day in January. All Salmon caught before 16 June must be returned. Fishing with lures and fly is the only method allowed up until the 16th June. The closed season for Sea Trout lasts from the 1st day in October until the last day in March.
The river also contains wild Brown Trout with the occasional fish topping the pound mark. Note that the closed season for Brown Trout is from the 1st October until the 15th March.
