LOCAL RESIDENTS across Seascale and surrounding areas can celebrate as funding for a new community fitness centre at the Windscale Club in Seascale has been secured.
A partnership between community residents and SASRA has raised £160,000. Work to renovate an
underused room in the club and turn it into a modern fitness facility will start in February with an aim to finish the project by Easter.
Andrew Kendall, SASRA General Manager/Project Manager, said, “The project has taken just over two years to get to this point and we are so excited about the future for this fantastic community facility.”
“We have received support from the Copeland Community Fund development team which has provided invaluable advice and guidance in drawing together the funding package and business planning support.”
Andrew explained, “The centre will be fitted out with the latest cardio and resistance equipment as well as providing accessible male and female changing rooms. The centre is well located within the Windscale Club with ample free parking and competitive rates on membership”.
Funds for the project have come from Copeland Community Fund, RDPE Fells and Dales, Cumbria County Council, Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust, BIG Lottery Awards for All, Cumbria Community Foundation, LLW Repository ltd, Europa Cleaning, SASRA, Cumbria Police and community donations.
The fitness centre will be hosting an official launch event in Easter 2012.For details on membership contact or call 019467 73677.
Janury 2012
An exciting new community fitness centre is being developed by local residents in partnership with SASRA to renovate part of the Windscale Club, Seascale into a low cost community gym with NEW cardio and weights equipment.
The renovations and set up will cost £180,000 and approximately £35,000 still needs to be raised.
Funds for the project so far have come from Copeland Community Fund (£73,000), Cumbria Waste Management Environment Trust, LLWR, Europa Cleaning, SASRA, Cumbria Police and community donations.
Whilst SASRA does not have the funding to renovate the hall; they will suport the committee to run the centre as a community enterprise with all profits being put specifically back into the centre for the benefit of the community.
Dawn Dennett, member of the project committee said, "The project started in April 2010 and we have had lots of fantastic community support from sports clubs, the GP Surgery and have drawn in a large proportion of funding already - but we sill have more funds to find.
This project once up and running will be a great opportunity for local people to have access to exercise facilities, create new jobs and have a good place for people of all ages to come together. We hope run exciting new classes from the centre as well as the offer of the fitness suite."
